A lot happened. Ross in this episode was in Parliament. I did notice that his views seemed quite modern for the time for example compassion for ordinary people. I know he is a man of the people but his views seem very radical for his time. However again this was written in the 1940’s and not in the 1700’s so the views would be different from then. Meanwhile Demelza was at home and managing the mines. There were yes again problems with them. Another plot that is recycled over and over again. To be honest I am little fed up with the mines having problems, cannot the mines be healthy and stable for a once. Nonetheless Ross rushed home to try and sort them out. It looks like this is a problem that may run until the end of the series with what Zacky Martin said about them.
Ross and Demelza meanwhile had an adult chat about their feelings for other people. Ross surprisingly did not cheat on Demelza with the prostitutes. I thought he would. However after seeing Elizabeth again he still apparently fancies her. Demelza for me summed it up in that he is in love with an ideal of Elizabeth and not the real living woman. Ross and Demelza surprisingly seemed better this episode. From what they did last episode I bet they will be another baby!
Speaking of babies. Caroline gave birth to a girl. They named her Sarah and Caroline, I was surprised here was not infatuated with the baby although on one hand it is not that surprising to be honest. Dwight was cooing over the baby but from what it seems he clearly is very concerned about her, I bet he knows something about her health that he is not letting on. To be honest I thought he would be besotted with the baby so his action was not unpredictable.
Keeping on the subject of children. Jeffrey Charles turned up. Gosh he is old now. He must be about 15 ish I would guess. Elizabeth looked barely older than him. Verity was unfortunately back again! I used to think she was ok but I have grown fed up with her over the seasons. Why does she have to appear? However she is Frances sister and I knew that she would appear sometime this season.
However onto less happy topics. Rebecca Front turned up as Ossie’s bossy mother, to terrorise poor Morwenna. When will there be an end to her miseries? However Front was enjoyable to watch and I looking forward to seeing more of her. Ossie is at it again with Rowella but at least it means that he is not forcing himself on Morwenna at the moment. Drake is still pining after her, I am sympathetic and I hope he will get together with her eventually however as Sam said she is married. Demelza is clearly trying to match Drake with Rosina whose leg Dwight helped heal. Drake does not look so keen but it will be interesting to see where this goes.
Finally someone I could not miss, George. Still sulking after his defeat he hosted a party of important men who he can bribe to get a pocket borough from with the help of his new dodgy friend Monk Adderley. This means that he will not just be sitting as an MP but will control 2 MP’S and how they vote. Typical George. Monk Adderley also met Ross. This looks like double trouble for him. I am however looking forward to see how Ross’s relationship with him will unfold and also how George’s power grabbing will go.
Oh one thing I almost forgot. Sexualised men. This week not Ross although I thought in this episode he was going to when he went into the sea. Instead he met Dr Enys who was the topless male of this week. I swear there must be a rule on the show that one of young main male members of the cast must take his top off once every episode. No longer just Ross.
Overall a quite good episode of Poldark. A little too much action and mining problems again but still entertaining. 3.5 stars.
P.S Next Episode: Things look like they will get worse for Morwenna. Ossie wants to put her in an asylum? For what refusing to have sex with him. I hope Dr Enys who Ossie is talking to will put a stop to this and tell him to leave Morwenna well alone. Caroline is threatening to leave Dwight and I bet we will find out what he has been hiding about Sarah. He is also standing alone on the cliff top with her, clearly things are not good, not just with her but with Caroline too. There also seems to be a funeral. I wonder who for? George’s plans are also clearly going well as he is smirking while drinking tea and talking about getting a seat.
